This site, currently in development, focuses on the written textual tradition and surviving manuscripts, with special reference to evidence from Graeco-Roman antiquity and the Middle Ages.
Study of the composition and transmission of written materials provides important data for tracing the history of ideas. Reconstruction of texts and contexts, by the application of sound historical, literary and text-critical methods, is taken to be of fundamental importance for historical understanding.
